Scrump's Dizception Sunday

Well, why don't we take a little look at Jim Hawkins' room in Treasure Planet, for just a moment?

What is that there? On his shelf? Could that be our favourite blue alien? I think so!

New Fan Magazines

Well, on Monday my new Disney Fan Magazines arrived. I was at work though, so I had to pick them up on Tuesday, but that is OK : ) It took just over a week for them to arrive after they shipped them, and there was just two weeks between me ordering them, and them arriving. YesAsia so far has not disappointed me!

I am very excited about the Disney Wedding Guidebook. I bet that it is really nice. When I have opened it, and had time to try to read as much of it as I can, I will write a little bit about what it is like, in case anyone else is considering buying one too : )

I am already married, but I absolutely love the Disney Wedding segment in the magazines themselves, so I decided to buy the book! There are a few others I want to get. I am thinking with my next order I will get the Unibearsity book!

Disney Fact Friday

Did you know that in the short cartoon 'Get a Horse' (which was played before Frozen in cinemas), Mickey Mouse was 100% voiced by Walt Disney?

The WDAS staff went through all of the cartoons where Mickey was voiced by Walt, and gathered all of the dialogue they needed from there. The only word that they couldn't find was 'red', so they took the sounds needed for the word from other words that Walt voiced.

Perhaps not a big deal for a lot of people, but for big Disney fans, that is really exciting!

Cinderella Live Action Movie Trailer

Hello everyone!

I am a little ashamed to say that sometimes Disney news travels slowly in Australia. Especially when you haven't had a lot of access to your computer.

So, it may be a little late, but for anyone interested in watching it, find below the trailer for Disney's live action Cinderella, to be released in 2015.

Scrump's Dizception Sunday

We are back for another round of Dizception Sunday!

Today, let's look at a more recent example of Dizception, from Frozen.

Just before Elsa's coronation, when the gates to the castle are opened, we see Anna run past two very familiar looking people!

This has actually sparked a great deal of theorising in the world of Disney fandom. Are Frozen and Tangled intertwined somehow?

Many people say that Elsa and Anna's parents were on the way to Rapunzel and Flynn's wedding when they were killed at sea. Some even like to believe that when they were shipwrecked, their parents managed to survive, with their newborn, as Tarzan's human parents.

Rapunzel and Flynn's appearance could just be a fun little easter egg though. So, believe what you will, and have fun!

Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!

Well everybody, today is the 86th birthday of Mickey Mouse, one of the most beloved cartoon characters ever created!

Walt Disney had just lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which was very upsetting to him. But, more than that, if he wanted to keep his company going, he needed another character. He came up with Mickey Mouse on a train, with his wife. Originally titled Mortimer Mouse, Lillian Disney suggested that Mortimer was a bit too snooty, and Mickey came to be.

Mickey debuted on the 18th of November, 1928, in 'Steamboat Willie', so this date is his birthday.

Steamboat Willie was the first animation with integrated sound, and in fact was not Mickey's first cartoon. Two other Mickey Mouse cartoons were created before this one, but Walt Disney delayed them when he learned about integrated sound technology. So, these two other cartoons were actually
released to the public after Steamboat Willie.

So, if you would please join me in wishing Mickey a happy birthday...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICKEY MOUSE!!!

Scrump's Dizception Sunday

Welcome to a new post, Scrump's Dizception Sunday. Here I will share with you Disney references that I have found in other Disney movies (because, even Disney loves Disney!).

It is only fitting that the first post here be from Lilo and Stitch.

There are several Disney nods in Lilo and Stitch. But, for today, I will show you this one!

Do you see it? On the postcard stand, there is a postcard that says 'Orlando' on it, with a picture of a castle! That can only be a postcard for Walt Disney World!

Oh, I found the picture to use on a website dedicated to finding Hidden Mickey's and other Hidden Disney things. Check them out if you are interested!

Did you know that Walt Disney designed the rubbish bin with a flap because he did not want rubbish to be visible at Disneyland?

Disney Fan Magazine

My most recent Disney Fan order
The Disney Fan Magazine is a Japanese magazine dedicated to all things Disney, and has been in print since the early 90's. This magazine contains information about Tokyo Disney Resort, the overseas parks, Disney history and films as well.

The magazine also reveals new shows, menus, attraction and goods too! Very often this magazine comes with a poster and postcards to pull out. Sometimes it also comes with stickers, pull out maps and guide books.

Sometimes there will be special guide books released by Disney Fan, such as the Disney Wedding guide book (which I have finally ordered, and which should be arriving in two weeks-perhaps I can do a post about it), the Fun with Kids guide book, yearly guide books to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, and so on.

Disneyland and DisneySea Perfect Guide Books
This magazine is in Japanese of course, and aimed primarily at young women. I quite enjoy that it is a Disney magazine aimed at an older audience. All of the other Disney magazines I have come across have been written for kids, so aside from posters, there is little for me to gain by reading them.

The first Disney Fan magazine I bought was the January 2013 issue. I bought it from Kinokuniya in Sydney. I could barely understand any of the writing, but I still really enjoyed looking at it. The pages are, for the most part, glossy and full colour. The magazine is filled with gorgeous pictures!

When I was in Japan earlier this year, I bought another issue (a lot cheaper in Japan too), and since then, I have been buying them online! At the moment, I am buying them from YesAsia, as they do a good offer with free shipping! Check them out if you are interested in buying them too : )

When I look at these magazines, I feel so happy. They remind me of my honeymoon. And, if you are like me and are studying Japanese, these magazines are perfect for practice. When I bought my first one, I could barely read it. I am still no where near fluent, but I am understanding a lot more than I used to. Reading them keeps me motivated to keep trying!

Which has prompted me to consider doing a 'Learn Disney with Mickey and Friends' segment. So, if you are interested, please keep an eye out for that!

Duffy Channel

I would like to tell you all a little bit about my favourite Disney YouTube channel, DuffyChannel.

Firstly, it is a very cute channel. The owners of the channel go to Tokyo Disney very often, so they often update their channel with amazing new videos. These videos cover everything from the shows, attractions, character greetings, seasonal decorations and more! Some of my favourite videos of theirs are probably the ones of the characters coming out to greet the guests in the mornings before the park opens. Those videos are always quite cute and fun to watch!

Now, I should tell you that a majority of their videos are in Japanese, as the owners are native Japanese speakers, and they are filming in the Japanese Disney parks. That being said, they do subtitle some of their videos in English, and even have an English version of their channel. They also have a sister channel, the ShellieMayChannel.

Please, check them out if you are interested! Even if you do not speak Japanese at all, I am sure that you will still be able to enjoy their videos! And, if you need a little more convincing, why don't you watch their wedding video!

Hey everyone, I have decided to create Disney Fact Friday. So, here we go!

Did you know that it took 32,000 bags of cement to do the initial construction for Disneyland?

Merry Christmas!

With Halloween over, Christmas is just around the corner. Yesterday, mum gave me the blue and pink pens in the photo (I bought the green one myself last year).

These pens are a lot of fun, because they are also stamps (the stamps look like the rubber figures on the top), and because they also contain bubble mixture in the shafts, so you can have some fun with that too!

Disney and Christmas just seem to go together, and at Christmas time I can post a photo of my Christmas tree, as it usually hosts a number of Disney characters!

Expansions at Tokyo Disney Resort!

According to the amazing Disney website, D23.com, the Oriental Land Company (who owns the Tokyo Disney Resort), has announced plans to expand both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea!

Planned improvements include expanding Fantasyland to approximately double the size that it is now, adding a new themed Port at DisneySea, and adding new attractions, shops and restaurants. It seems that the Oriental Land Company is also keen on improving the overall atmosphere. To do this, they plan on addressing issues such as congestion and areas designed to protect guests from the heat or the cold (and trust me, it is cold in Japan in Winter)!

I am excited by this announcement I think. That means that when I go back in 2016, there will be new things to explore, and that is always exciting! Hopefully they will have the majority completed by the time I get there!

I will write a little bit about the history of Tokyo Disney Resort in a later post, for those who are interested!
